The perfect twosome on Father's Day

David Evangelista and daughter

I am the very proud father of a beautiful 7-year-old girl. She is my only child, and we do a lot of fun things together. If I had a dollar for every time I was the handsome prince who saved the princess and married her, I could retire.

I have many friends and colleagues who have asked me over the years, “Don’t you want to have another child so you can have a boy?”

My answer is simple:”I don’t because I have the best of both worlds."  You see, while my little girl loves doing all of the girly stuff – Barbies, dolls, dress-up, etc. – she is an excellent athlete. She is one of the stars of her softball team and she LOVES to play golf!

About three years ago, I announced to my wife that I was going to play golf with my buddies on Father’s Day. Like any good wife, she said it would be no problem. I just had to tell my daughter that I wouldn’t be around on Father’s Day. Needless to say, I was home that day.

Around that same time, my daughter wanted to learn to play golf. I got her clubs and lessons (if I taught her, I would only ruin her game and our friendship) and we have been playing golf ever since. She is now my buddy that I love to play golf with the most.

This past Father’s Day was a first of hopefully many years of playing together on Father’s Day. We went to lunch and played five holes. There was never a more perfect day!
