Wednesday, July 29 marks the second annual “Play 9 Day.” Following a successful first year, the United States Golf Association (USGA) and American Express are once again partnering to encourage all golfers, from beginner to the more advanced, to go play nine holes.
Let’s face it; in today’s hectic world not everyone has the time to spend four hours on a golf course. But that’s where a nine-hole round comes in; clocking in at roughly two hours, it takes less time to get around the links. It’s also friendlier on the wallet, costing a national average of about $25.
Did you know that players walking nine holes burn up to 1,000 calories, record more than 5,000 steps and walk nearly 2 ½ miles? What better theater to get some exercise than soaking in the natural beauty of a golf course and making a few birdies along the way?
There are so many advantages to playing nine holes. One of the most important being nine-hole rounds are ideal for beginners looking to learn basic fundamentals and etiquette. There’s less pressure to keep up and more encouragement to simply learn the game at their own pace.
So on Wednesday, take a break from that business meeting and tee it up at a course near you. Let your friends know how much you are enjoying lunch on the links by using #Play9Golf.
