FootGolf at Ka’anapali: One Writer’s Family Fun in the Sun

There’s a lot of buzz around FootGolf, a game that’s finding a foothold on golf courses everywhere.

Yes, every pun intended.

Late last year Ka’anapali Golf Courses in Lahaina, HI became the first facility in Maui to offer the exciting golf-soccer hybrid when it built a FootGolf track on its award-winning Kai Course. And just recently, Jen Andrade, author of The Mom Reviews and mother of three, visited Ka’anapali with her family to give the new sport a try.

A brief summary of the entertaining article found on her popular website: her entire family got a kick out of FootGolf (sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves).

Her story began with a disclaimer: while her family is athletic, they aren’t overly familiar with a standard 18-hole golf course. However, three of the five have played soccer before. So while a golf course might make them feel out of place, soccer balls made them feel right at home.

After a rules briefing, Jen was handed a scorecard and it was, according to her, “game on.” Two hours later, smiles were all around. Quick and easy to learn, her family truly enjoyed their FootGolf round. They soaked up majestic views and experienced a fun, new game together.

And if you’re ever in Hawaii, be sure to strap on your cleats and give this exciting new sport a try. Available after 3 p.m. weekly, rounds cost $15 per player (walking) and soccer balls are available to rent for $5.
