Grow the Game Initiative Spotlight

Our support of growing the game of golf is twofold: we support National initiatives led by Industry peers and celebrate successful “Home Grown” Programs developed and led by our instructors throughout our portfolio. Our Instructor network stretches far and wide and we love to share success stories!

Steve Brewer, PGA is in his 12th year as Director of Instruction at the Dubsdread Golf Learning Center.  I hired him to create a player development program for juniors and adults.  Steve’s Learning Center’s moto is “LEARN, PRACTICE, PLAY & FUN”.  Year after year, we get feedback that one of the key reasons students have learned to enjoy the game and improve is, “Steve makes it fun to learn and play the game”.  In 2016, Steve was named the  “North Florida PGA – ECC Player Development Award” winner for his outstanding achievement in growth of the game initiatives.

The “Junior Academy Program” enrolled approximately 80 juniors for weekly classes last year.  We are on pace to exceed 100 juniors this year.  The Learning Center also set a new record for Junior Summer Camp program participation in 2019 with 95 juniors.  Steve attributes this year’s success to the implementation of the Operation 36 platform to the Learning Center.  It incorporates both on course play and classes on the range; along with the Op36 app brining the kind of technology juniors like to help keep track of their progress and success.  In our Junior High Performance Program, Steve has one junior who has won over 40 tournaments and played in 4 world championships.  He also made the Super Regionals in the Drive, Chip & Putt.  This was just one step from making it to the DCP finals at Augusta National.

The “Tee It Up” program for adults has generated over 300 new students so far this year.  This group class format, allows the student to learn fundamentals of the full swing, short game and on course play.  He offers 3 different levels of the TIU class so adults can progress to higher skill levels.  Students receive Practice with the Pro and Play with the Pro sessions that can be used once they finish their classes.  This adds value and provides additional help on the range and on the course to keep them coming back.  Students also receive 5 discounted rounds of golf to be used after the TIU series is over.  This program has generated over 3,500  additional rounds of golf, increased merchandise and club repair sales and 6 new members this year.
