Congratulations to Matt Burgess, who is now PGA Certified in all four career paths after recently earning his certification in General Management from the PGA of America. Burgess is the General Manager and Director of Golf at Billy Casper Golf-managed Falmouth Country Club in East Falmouth, Mass.
The Certified Professional Program is an online, career-enhancing educational curriculum that supports the goals of PGA members who are committed to continuously improving their business and teaching skills to meet the increasing demands of the golf industry. The program offers four certifications: General Management, Golf Operations, Teaching & Coaching and Player Development.
In addition to completing all assigned reading and coursework, members must submit a paper summarizing the impact and enhanced performance gained on the job as a result of their training and development.
Matt has over 27 years of experience in the golf industry and has worked and taught at several clubs including Congressional Country Club, where he worked during the 1997 U.S. Open Championship. This will be Matt's 10th season at Falmouth Country Club, where he oversees the entire golf operation including the clubhouse, golf shop, outside operations, F&B and maintenance of the 27-hole facility.
Featuring lush fairways and immaculate greens, Falmouth Country Club is a popular destination for visitors to the Cape. The driving range has been newly renovated with 20 hitting stations. Other practice facilities include a chipping green, putting green and bunker short game practice area. The clubhouse, which includes a fully-stocked golf shop and snack bar -- offers indoor seating for up to 60 people and an additional tent area for up to 180 people. The course was an early adopter of GolfBoards, which can be rented for nine or 18 holes.
An Audubon International-certified Cooperative Sanctuary, the course is committed to protecting the local environment, conserving natural resources and providing wildlife habitats. It is home to an abundance of wildlife including red-tailed hawks and ospreys.
