Good laughs for stand-up at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club

Dave Burleigh

Golf is a game that teaches you to learn at yourself. It also provides plenty of opportunities to laugh at others. But on Friday night at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club, the laughs weren't from bad shots -- or even worse jokes -- but instead thanks to a professional stand-up comic.

Dave Burleigh knocked him dead with his brand of comedy as part of a special event featuring dinner at the California course. It was the perfect setting for the two-time finalist in the San Francisco International Stand-Up Comedy Competition and contestant on "America's Got Talent."

"I think stand-up is best in a small, intimate room and people are there for comedy," Burleigh said to The Times-Herald. "It's awful when people are enjoying their salmon dinner and some nice mood music and then some guy goes up and says, 'Welcome to comedy night' and folks weren't expecting or wanting that. Corporate events can be tough, too, for the same reason. A lot of the sales guys don't want to be there and are looking out the window."
