The idea of FlingGolf piqued the curiosity of some northern Virginia residents this weekend, drawing them to Forest Greens Golf Club to try out the sport on Saturday in a preview of what's to come for the game.

FlingGolf is similar to FootGolf, both derivatives of golf. In FlingGolf, the golf ball isn't hit with any of 14 clubs in the bag. Instead, a piece of equipment akin to what you'd see in lacrosse or jai alai is used to, yes, fling the ball toward the target. Players use the FlingStick to zip the ball toward the hole, using launch point to control distance and roll. Once on the green, players can use the FlingStick in a way similar to a putter to get the ball in the cup.

The preview was somewhat like a hack-a-thon, with the players asked to pose questions and make suggestions to improve the game. Some of the ideas included how long holes should be, as well their associated pars; modifying the length of the equipment based on player height, as well creating a flat side for putting on the greens.

The game will continue to improve with a full roll-out scheduled for 2015.
