Members of the Herd represented Billy Casper Golf at the 2nd Annual “Careers in Golf Networking Event” on Friday, November 16th in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Nextgengolf, in conjunction with the National Collegiate Club Golf Association’s National Championship, brought together over 356 golfers from more than 40 colleges nationwide. The golfers had the opportunity to meet with hiring managers from featured golf industry companies and associations to learn about employment and internship opportunities in a variety of fields.
BCG was one of 12 organizations to sponsor the event, including Golf Channel, PGA of America, USGA, AJGA and more.
Nextgengolf is dedicated to the success of golfers in their 20s and 30s, both on and off the golf course, providing millennial golfers of all skill levels with the opportunity to participate in competitive team-based events. For college students, the NCCGA achieves this by creating competitive outlets for non-varsity student athletes. Players at more than 450 colleges nationwide play on co-ed, student-run teams to pursue their passion for the game of golf.
“As an industry employer, we’re looking to hire individuals who love the game of golf and have a great skill set that allows them the opportunity to develop and grow within BCG,” said Tom Reilly, VP of HR at BCG. “Whether that’s accounting, finance, IT, or running a golf course, the quality of students that were at the event was exactly what we look to recruit. They come from reputable universities, with a solid education, and they have a lot of great experience that can be translated to the golf industry. We are committed to coming to this event and continuing to talk to students about what a career in the golf might look like.”
For current BCG Marketing Associate, and former NCCGA President, Grant Johnson, this event hits close to home. “As a former club golfer and NCCGA president, one year ago I was on the other side of this event—an eager college senior, and anxious to meet employers in the golf industry. Meeting Tom and learning about BCG at the 2017 event proved to be an invaluable opportunity that helped lead to my internship and now employment with BCG. Fast forward one year, to be back at this event now as an employer is an incredible experience.”
